Outdoor Recreation

  1. Adult Rock Climbing

    May 18, 2021, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Ross Park

    Trial and error is no way to learn to climb. This course is designed for adults who want to be able to set up their own climbs, tie the proper knots and belay with confidence. Equipment is provided but you are welcome to bring your own and learn to use it. Many adults with kids in our youth programs take this course so they can take their family out safely after our programs end. Student to instructor ratios are low for maximum take home. Intermediate climbing takes basic techniques and begins to apply them to more varied situations.

Team Sports

  1. Session 2: Future Hoopers Begins

    May 22, 2021, 11:00 AM - 12:45 PM @ Community Recreation Center

    This program is for boys and girls age 4yrs-7yrs old and focuses on introducing the participants to basketball and the development of basic motor skills necessary to play organized basketball, while they work one-on-one and spend quality time with their parents. The program focuses on teaching children and their parents dribbling/ball-handling, shooting, passing/catching, and running/agility. Each week the exercises become increasingly difficult as the class progresses. There are no designated teams or coaches. Parents are required to participate and assist with their children. The class is 45 minutes long once a week for 5 weeks and is limited to 8 participants per class session. The class will be held at the Community Rec. Center 144 Wilson. Basketballs will be provided.

  5. Zoo Idaho Education Internship Deadline

    Zoo Idaho education interns will sail into Idaho wildlife informal education! This position aims to prepare individuals for a position working as an informal environmental educator with interest in local wildlife biology and ecology. Interns will be trained on the legal and safety issues associated with working with youth as well as how to translate sophisticated science to youth. They will work closely with the Education Curator in the development and delivery of lessons for K-12 informal education. Interns will also be trained on proper husbandry techniques and animal care standards. This is an unpaid internship for high school students. The internship is a 20-hour-per-week commitment June-August. How to Apply: Any interested applicants should send cover letter, resume, and essay of intent to rshearouse@pocatello.us.
