Middle Ages Come to Life in Marshall Public Library Display

Items featured in the Society for Creative Anachronism's display at the Marshall Public Library.

The Marshall Public Library is going medieval with its latest display.

The Society for Creative Anachronism’s (SCA) Shire of Stonegate is displaying re-creations of Middle Age clothing, musical instruments, calligraphy, cookware, weapons, and more. The items in the exhibit have been crafted or collected by SCA members.

“We’re excited to feature the Shire of Stonegate members’ work since their intent – much like the library’s – is to educate as well as entertain,” said Jen Hawkins, Library Specialist at the Marshall Public Library.

The SCA is an international non-profit “devoted to the research and re-creation of pre-seventeenth century skills, arts, combat, culture, and employing knowledge of history to enrich the lives of participants through events, demonstrations, and other educational presentations and activities.”

"I have been in the SCA for over 30 years,” said Starr Reardon, Honorable Lady with the Shire of Stonegate. “I was married in it, I had kids in it, and it was a beautiful way to raise our family. It is such a blessing to be in a group of people all striving to fulfill chivalric values."

The display is located on the second floor of the Marshall Public Library and will be up through the end of December.

If you have an idea for a future display, contact Jen Hawkins, Library Specialist at 208-232-1263 ext. 106 or via email at
