Citizen Police Academy
April 2 – May 21, 2019
Pocatellans are invited to see what the day in and day out life of the city’s police officers is like.
Currently, the Pocatello Police Department is taking applications for its Citizen Police Academy. The course will teach 30 residents about crime scene investigations, police driving techniques, patrol procedures, use of force training, and more.
“Attending the academy is an opportunity for our citizens to see and experience how police officers are trained as well as gain an understanding of why police respond to situations the way they do,” said Dianne Brush, Community Services Coordinator. “There is classroom content and hand-on opportunities, making the academy an interesting experience for the public.”
Classes will begin Tuesday, April 2 and conclude May 21. The classes will be held Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Two optional classes will be held Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to noon and Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to noon. Graduation will be at the end of the last class May 21.
Citizen Police Academy students are selected through an application process and will undergo a background check. The deadline to apply is March 20 at 4 p.m. Those who are interested in the program can find more information and apply online. Completed applications can also be submitted to the department at 911 North 7th Avenue or mailed to the Pocatello Police Department, P.O. Box 2877, Pocatello, ID 83206.
