Zoo Idaho Seeking Public Input on Master Plan

Zoo Idaho is looking for your help in charting a course for the zoo’s future.

Zoo staff is asking the public to offer their opinions on the facility’s master plan. The document stretches 20 years and outlines renovations to the exhibits, potential changes to the entrance, and the overall vision for Zoo Idaho, Most notably, the plan sees the zoo divided into four different sections: mountains, grasslands wetlands and homestead.

“This is a bold vision that offers realistic and feasible steps on how to make it a reality,” said Peter Pruett, Zoo Idaho Superintendent. “The current plan makes the most of the Zoo’s natural landscape to help immerse guests in the beauty of Idaho’s many ecosystems and the animals that call them home.”

The proposal places an emphasis on collaboration between different parts of the community including the Zoo Idaho Zoological Society and City of Pocatello, with funding through both public and private sources.

“We want Zoo Idaho to reflect the community it serves,” said Peter Pruett, “We also want the community to share in our successes of helping to preserve Intermountain West wildlife and habitat through conservation and education.”

Residents can view the proposed master plan online and submit their comments at or by visiting the Zoo Idaho Administration Building located at 3101 Avenue of the Chiefs.
