Merrill Named First Mayor for a Day of 2016-17 School Year

Pocatello

An Irving Middle School student has been selected as the first Mayor for a Day of the 2016-2017 school year. Eighth-grader Preslie Merrill was selected by faculty for her participation in student leadership, helping to organize assemblies, food drives, and other events. During her term Mayor for a Day Merrill will be meeting with City leaders, as well as getting an inside view of City operations. “I’m glad to have our Mayor for a Days returning to City Hall,” said Mayor Brian Blad. “Their fresh perspective of the city gives us chance to approach its challenges in very unique ways.” Mayor for a Day Merrill’s term will begin the morning of September 30 and end that afternoon. During the school year, a new Mayor for a Day is selected from the city’s middle and high schools once a month. The selection is made by the school and a different school is represented each month.
