At Thursday’s Pocatello City Council study session, Council Members will be asked to consider changing the name of a Gate City park.
The City has been approached by the Pocatello Kiwanis Club to rename Bonneville Park, near Idaho State University, to Kirkpatrick Park after Colonel David Kirkpatrick. Col. Kirkpatrick was a longtime supporter of Idaho State and was also involved in numerous community service organizations throughout the area. The Kiwanis would also like to place a monument to Col. Kirkpatrick near the park’s sign. The club has also committed to pay for the cost of replacement signage and the monument to Col. Kirkpatrick.
If the name change is given the go-ahead by the Council, it would need to be formally approved at City Council meeting.
Citizens who would like to weigh-in on the proposed name change are invited to email City Clerk Ruth Whitworth at firstname.lastname@example.org or to call 234-6217.
