A Pocatello eighth-grader will be leading the city next week as its latest Mayor for a Day.
Holy Spirit Catholic School student Anika Farnes will take charge the morning of February 16. Farnes will work alongside Mayor Brian Blad as they go about overseeing the operations of the more than 20 City Departments. Anika was chosen by the school after completing an essay on “Why Would You or Why Wouldn’t You Like to be Mayor for a Day?”
“My office has been told by her teacher that it was the most thought out and convincing essay they received,” said Mayor Blad. “It will be interesting to hear what ideas she has about government and the Mayor’s job.”
Mayor for a Day Farnes’ term will end later that afternoon.
Each month, a new Mayor for a Day is selected from among Pocatello’s middle and high schools. The selection is made by the school and a different school is represented every month.
