Snow is in the forecast for Pocatello this weekend and the Pocatello Police Department’s Code Enforcement division is reminding the city’s businesses and residents of their responsibility to remove snow and ice from their sidewalks.
Following recent snow events, the division has noted an increased number of complaints from pedestrians about snow and ice not being removed from sidewalks around the city. Most of the complaints have come from the city’s business districts.
Pocatello City Code 8.14.060 states, “The responsible party of any premises within the municipality abutting or adjoining any public sidewalk shall be required to remove all snow and ice from any such sidewalk.” Officials also add that it is illegal to move, blow, shovel or throw snow into the street.
Renters are advised to contact their landlord or consult their rental agreement to determine whether the landlord or tenant is responsible for snow and ice removal.
If you have questions about snow removal on your property, please contact the Code Enforcement division at 234-6287. You can also report potential code violations online at pocatello.us/376/Code-Enforcement.
