Sanitation Dept. Reminds Residents to Discard Holiday Electronics Properly

Pocatello

Pocatello residents may find themselves with new electronic devices this holiday season and the City of Pocatello Sanitation Department is reminding residents to properly dispose of their e-waste the right way.

Residents are asked to take their unwanted electronics to the Sanitation Department offices, 1121 South 2nd Ave., Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Debbie Brady, Recycling Coordinator with the Sanitation Department, says it’s a little extra work but it’s worth it.

“E-waste often contains chemicals that harm people and the environment. That’s why it is important to dispose of these items properly,” said Brady. “These chemicals and compounds include lead, mercury, and cadmium just to name a few.”

A list of products that are considered e-waste is included below. If you have questions about this or any other Sanitation Department programs, call 234-6193 or visit Pocatello.us/sanitation.

Sample E-Waste:
Computers
Monitors
Cellular and wireless phones
Keyboards
Computer mice
Printers
Scanners
Fax machine
Point of sale equipment
Telephones
DVD players and VCRs
Stereo equipment
Cabling
Flat screen televisions
