Citizen Police Academy

April 4 – May 17, 2016

In an effort to strengthen ties between police officers and the community, the Pocatello Police Department is opening registration for its Citizen Police Academy.

The program is designed to give community members an overview of services provided by the Pocatello Police department and to gain insight in to the complexities of law enforcement. Chief Scott Marchand said he hopes it fosters a positive citizen-police relationship which is critical to the department’s ability to fight crime. “It’s crucial that our community understand the daily challenges of law enforcement, states Chief Marchand.” The classes provides community members with “hands on” experience and the chance to talk with officers.

Classes will begin Tuesday, April 4th and conclude on May 17th. The classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6 pm to 9 pm plus, Saturday April 30th, from 9 am to noon and Saturday May 7rd, from 9 am to noon. Graduation will be at the end of the last class on May 17th.

Course topics include: Patrol Procedures, Dispatch, Crime Prevention, Defensive Tactics and Use of Force, Crime Scene Investigations, Evidence Collection, Traffic Stops, Firearms Training, Emergency Vehicle Operation, and Explosive Breaching. There will be interactive, hands-on opportunities in some of the classes that should be lots of fun for participants.
