Get to Know Your D.A.R.E. Officer
Officer Kevin Nielsen started his law enforcement career in 2003 with the Madison County Sheriff's Office. He graduated with his bachelor degree from BYU-Idaho, and was hired on by the Pocatello Police Department in 2005. He worked in the patrol division for 3 years before he became the Pocatello D.A.R.E. Officer. Along with instructing D.A.R.E., Officer Nielsen is an instructor in:
  • Arrest techniques
  • Ground control
  • Physical fitness specialist
  • Reactive impact weapons
  • Weapons retention
Officer Nielsen is also a member of the department's honor guard, school resource officer, and mountain bike patrol officer.

Outside of Law Enforcement, Officer Nielsen is an avid triathlete and distance runner. One of his accomplishments was participating in a national competition in the 2008 Western States Police and Fire Games. During that week, he participated in 9 events and brought home 9 medals including; 7 gold's, 1 silver, and 1 bronze. Officer Nielsen loves:

Officer Nielsen is also a varsity scoutmaster and an eagle scout.
